Cinco de Murphy’s celebrates traditional Mexican holiday in Rapid City with food, fun, fiesta

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that is often understated in the United States, but Murphy’s Pub & Grill in Rapid City is about to change that.

This year, the popular Rapid City restaurant and bar plans to open at 10 a.m. on May 5 for a full-day Cinco de Murphy’s fiesta. “It’s nacho average Cinco party!” said manager Tony Demaro.

Bring some friends to join Señor Murphy in celebrating Mexican-American culture and experiences with a variety of food specials and festive activities. The first 50 people inside the door can kick start the day with a complementary margarita. Starting at noon, there will be hourly events, with the winners of each event getting to take their shot at a piñata filled with prizes.

Murphy’s will serve a special Cinco de Mayo menu all day, with traditional Mexican favorites including tacos, burritos, fajitas, nachos, and quesadillas – as well as a few unique Spanish dishes. Anyone in costume – i.e., bandana, sombrero, poncho, flamenco or salsa dress – will receive their first drink free.

Cinco de Murphy’s will include the following schedule of activities:

Noon: Pin the Tail on the Donkey

1 p.m.: Buried Treasure Game

2 p.m.: Tequila 101 – Sample various types this popular Mexican liquor

3 p.m.: Hot Pepper Eating Contest
